There must be a problem either with the driver installation, Pre connection sequence, or how the "Audio MIDI" app is setup and configured. I've got an older MacBook White 1,1 (early 2006) running OS X v10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and according to the M-Audio driver list it should work with v1.8.1 but it doesn't.
